This Is Usually The Cheapest Day Of The Week To Buy Gas

Even though Monday is the long-reigning cheapest day of the week to fill your tank, the status of some other days of the week has recently shifted. Previously, Friday was one of the most expensive days of the week to purchase gasoline, but it’s suddenly one of the cheapest. Conventional thinking held that many consumers vied to fill up on Friday in preparation for running errands or taking journeys over the weekend. However, changes in driving habits from the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and increased work-from-home employment may be shifting trends.

For example, Sunday was previously one of the most expensive days, but it’s now one of the cheapest while Thursday was the most expensive day in 2021. In general, you’ll want to avoid filling your tank during midweek and on Saturday. The best days are Monday, Friday, and Sunday.

According to GasBuddy’s head petroleum analyst Patrick De Haan, “Though there is variation in daily gas prices across different states, the consensus is that filling up at the beginning or end of the work week, on Monday or Friday, is the best way to save money. Following Monday, Sunday is the cheapest day to fill-up.”
